Portraits and Poetry

Joanne undertook a project in 2014 that looked at Down Syndrome.

She interpreted its meaning through linear drawings and printmaking. All the portraits that you see are of children with Down Syndrome. Stripping away misconceptions, then using the language of poetry and drawing, what we have left is the beauty of the child.

The poetry appears intermittently in the work. Other texts are inlaid inside the prints based around factual information about Down Syndrome. She held a solo exhibition at 'The Atrium' Gallery in Cardiff in 2015.
